Student Leadership 2025/26

Shevington High School is proud to have a student leadership team who share their ideas about school decisions and policy and who lead the Shevington student council.

In the summer term, Y10 students can apply to become part of the Student Leadership Team.  This application process involves completing an application, producing a campaign video, presenting in assemblies followed by whole school elections.

Student Council

At Shevington we encourage every student to contribute positively to the whole school community. One way students can do this is by being a member of the Student Council. The Student Council provides a forum for every student’s voice to be heard and an opportunity to raise issues which are important for students and improve school life for all.

Each form group will elect two candidates who then produce a campaign video which is shared with all students in their year group.  The whole year group then vote on the 2 students they wish to represent them in the student council.  Council members are responsible for gathering information from the students that they represent, discussing their priorities at the student council meeting and then feeding back the main discussion points to their year group in assemblies.

The format of the student voice process is:

SAIL Group Discussion Points

All Shevington High pupils are given the opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts on how they think the school can be improved via SAIL time discussions, coaching and google form questionnaires.   These discussion are facilitated and captured by student council members and shared with the head students.  From the discussion points raised, the school will then look at what our top priority discussion points are and these will form the agenda of the upcoming student council meeting.

Whole School Student Council

All of the council members will then meet to discuss the points raised by their fellow peers. These meetings are a great way to encourage debate, public speaking, problem solving and decision making. The meetings are facilitated by a member of the senior leadership team and are always respectful, calm and insightful. The discussion points are then captured and collated by the member of the Senior Leadership Team.

SLT Action Planning Meeting

At the next available time, the feedback of the meeting are shared by the Head Students with the rest of the Senior Leadership team and school Governing Body. At this time an action plan is formed where we will address any concerns the student body has and see what reasonable adjustments can be made to Shevington High school to promote an enjoyable, safe and positive learning environment for all.
